Security Manager
- Minimum starting pay for this role is $95,000 annually. Additional consideration will be given, depending on relevant qualifications and experience.
- The Security Manager is responsible for keeping a secure and safe environment for all guests, staff, animals, and vendors of the Aquarium of the Pacific. This is considered to be the top priority for this position. This position reports to the Director of Visitor Operations.
Essential Functions:
- Hiring, training, supervising and evaluating the Security staff members. Inspire confidence in the team’s ability to respond to incidents, identify threats and their general attentiveness to assignments.
- Maintain written, photographic, and video records for all incidents occurring within the Aquarium’s perimeter, this includes daily logs and incident reporting.
- Maintain all aspects of facility key systems and controls.
- Serving as a member of the AOP Emergency Operations Center team, dedicated to managing any emergency/event that arises requiring collective AOP response.
- Partner and build rapport with management at Queensway parking structure, and numerous LB City divisions such as Police, Fire, Parks Rec & Marine, Parking & Traffic Management, Public Works, City Prosecutor’s Office, and LB Transit.
- Being responsible for the ordering, maintaining and repair of all handheld radios.
- Managing relationships with security vendors.
- Providing support to internal departments on large scale events, guest flow, VIP visits as needed.
- Being responsible for the care and maintenance of the CCTV system.
- Maintain a flexible schedule. Work full shifts with each team through the year – Days, Swings, and Graveyard – on a regular basis.
- Be a resident expert in security related areas. Provide company wide training on Active Shooter, and other topics as assigned, annually.
- Ensure crosswalk area, between AOP and parking structure, is safe for guests to use at all times.
- Safeguard the Pacific Visions/front lawn area from damage/vandalism.
Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years security management experience.
- Minimum 3 years prior staff management experience.
- Proven use of the following computer software; Microsoft Office suite, EVOLV, Patrol tour system, Incident report writing, Lost and Found systems, Key management systems, Vehicle management systems.
- Experience with access control, report writing, CCTV systems and Lost and Found protocols.
- California driver’s license in good standing, driving is required occasionally.
- Experience hiring and training security staff.
- California Guard Card in good standing
Knowledge & Skills
- Ability to effectively communicate to staff new procedures and policies.
- Ability to inspire high performance from direct reports.
- Ability to coach officers through dips in performance.
- Deliver discipline and terminations when appropriate.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- This includes the ability to de-escalate/resolve varying situations, with guests, staff and the general public.
- This also includes occasionally responding to legal actions and being deposed/testifying in court.
- Expertise in general security program structures, related legal issues and security-related technologies.
- Knowledge of radio communication technologies and practices.
- Ability to both lead and participate as a member of a team, as needed.
- Excellent guest service skills, both internal and external.
- Ability to communicate to all Aquarium volunteers and employees the necessity of complying with Security/Safety standards.
